Day 1 - It's business time!

The first of the amazingly long list of perks was the business class flights. I think there is an unspoken rule that when there is a free bar, you have a drink, regardless of what time it is (it was 8.30am). So we toasted to our luck with a champagne brekky and then did our best to clear out the buffet before we boarded.

One of the perks of flying business class is getting these super sexy sleep suits! It might not look like it, but they are actually designed by Peter Morrissey! We were so excited, we jumped straight into ours. I went downstairs (naturally we were on the upper deck) half way through the flight and caught all the economy class passengers enviously eyeing off my sleep suit, they were pretty hot!

Nearly as exciting as the sleep suits were the reclining chairs. You could get pretty damn close to laying horizontal AND it was a massaging chair! The only downside here was that once you were horizontal, getting back up was a 10 - 15 minute affair. I am considering writing to Qantas to ask why they needed 17 buttons on the chair control, it made things very confusing!

We flew so far south that we could actually see icebergs in the sea that were over a kilometre long.
We're told this is quite rare so we were pretty impressed, although not nearly as impressed as we were with the food...
We were served 2 three course meals both served on white clothed tables (ok they were napkins thrown over our tray table, but I was still very impressed). Being the bowsers that we are and having a need to try everything on the menu we also shared two snacks (a calzone and foccacia that definitely could have been meals in their own right).

After our thoroughly enjoyable 14 hour flight we were collected from Johannesburg airport and taken to our hotel. We were thrown straight into a 3 hour wardrobe fitting which basically consisted of us stripping off in front of a bunch of strangers and trying on about 20 different outfits. We'd each brought 2 full suitcases (I brought 14 pairs of shoes) but we still left the fitting with at least another suitcase worth of clothes, shoes and accessories as styled by our professional stylists! I pinched myself on the way back to my room to check that this was actually happening...

Over and out... Mikaila
